What is a Slicer?
A slicer is a visual filtering component that allows users to easily filter data in a PivotTable or a table. It provides a user-friendly interface to display available options, making it easier to analyze specific segments of data.
How to Create a Slicer in Excel
Step 1: Prepare Your Data
Before you can create a slicer, ensure that your data is organized in a table or PivotTable. Here’s how to do it:
- Select your data range.
- Go to the Insert tab on the ribbon.
- Click on Table to convert your range into a table, or create a PivotTable by selecting PivotTable.
Step 2: Insert a Slicer
Once you have your table or PivotTable ready, follow these steps:
- Click anywhere in your table or PivotTable.
- Go to the Table Tools or PivotTable Tools on the ribbon.
- Click on Insert Slicer.
- A dialog box will appear, showing all the fields in your data. Check the boxes for the fields you want to filter with slicers.

Step 3: Customize Your Slicer
Now that you have your slicer(s), you can customize them to fit your needs:
- Resize: Click and drag the corners of the slicer to resize it.
- Style: Use the Slicer Tools tab to change the style and color of your slicer.
- Arrange: Move the slicer around your worksheet for better visibility.
Step 4: Use the Slicer
